Close the Cheshunt Asylum Hotel

Lewis in Parliament

On 12 March 2026, I received confirmation from the Home Office that the Marriott Hotel in Cheshunt will cease housing asylum seekers from June 2026.

Since I was elected, I have taken every possible step to secure the closure of the Hotel, working closely with Broxbourne Council.

I have challenged Government Ministers on when it will be closed more than ten times, and earlier this year I took the case directly to the Home Office with a meeting with the Minister responsible.

I know residents will have questions about where the asylum seekers will now be placed. I have sought urgent clarity from the Home Office on this point and my own view is crystal clear: every individual with no right to be in this country should be deported at the earliest opportunity.

I will continue to share updates with you as soon as more information is available.
